Gargy Banerjee

Gargy studied Bharata Natyam in India for two years before her initial training in Orissi in Vancouver, B.C.. She began studying Orissi in 1992 under Dr. Ratna Roy, and became a member of Urvasi in 1994. Since then she has performed around Washington State, in two international festivals, in Winnipeg and in Ottawa, as well as several times at the University of British Columbia. In the showcase in Ottawa she won first place in the North American continent and was invited to Germany for three weeks to perform in July and August 1995, during the dance festival. In 2000, she traveled to India for 3 months to study dance there under Guru Muralidhar Majhi, as the recipient of the prestigious Indo-Shastri Fellowship (Canada).
