Debraj GuhaThakurtaDebraj GuhaThakurta started his classical music talim under Rangalal Mondol in Agra Gharana khayal gayaki style from around 11 years of age. He pursued his training under his guru for more than 10 years while he was residing in Calcutta. During this period he obtained the ‘Sangit Prabhakar’ degree from the Allahadad’s Prayag Sangit Samiti in 1989. Since 1992 Debraj has been out of Calcutta to pursue studies and work, and continued his musical practice mostly by himself. He obtained his Ph.D. in biochemistry 1999 from Johns Hopkins University at Baltimore. While at Johns Hopkins he was the program coordinator for the SPICMACAY chapter for several years organizing successful concerts of north and south Indian classical music. He currently works as a senior research scientist with the pharmaceutical, Merck & Co., and has been in the Seattle area since 2002. |
