Ex-crickA very complicated kidnap tale
Our favourite source of bedtime stories is ToI, which brings us this noir tale.
Pay close attention now:
1. A buddy of Tendulkar, “Chamundi”, gets kidnapped.
2. This fellah, who drives around in a Mercedes, is an Andhra cricket selector.
3. He chats with the police for a couple of hours on his cellphone after the kidnapping.
4. The abductors are led by a “close relative”, Sandeep.
5. Surrounded by police, they let him go.
6. Sandeep hired three people for 50,000 each to kidnap Chamundi.
7. Yet, the conclusion is that the abductors are “factionists” who want more representation for the Rayalseema region in the Andhra cricket team.
8. In another twist, Sandeep bore Chamundi a grudge because the latter
failed to come good on a promise to help him get married to a US-based girl ..
and not just any girl, mind you!,
with whom he had had an affair.
And, finally,
9. Sandeep had kidnapped Chamundi a month earlier for a ransom of 600,000.
Given the twist-a-minute nature of the tale, I am sure there is a Bollywood potboiler in it struggling to come out. Perhaps with Shakti Kapoor playing Sandeep?
