Astrologers against superstition

Filed under: Uncategorized — Administrator @ 8:15 pm

The Indian Express is appalled at the superstitious theories swirling around the tsunami disaster.

The most unbelievable superstitions of all hues competed with each other to spread the religious muck, including a possible relation between the imprisonment of the Kanchi seer and the tragedy.

The noble newspaper resolved to dispel these unscientific notions — by (how else?) doing a proper survey of astrologers.

[T]his website?s newspaper consulted a few astrologers to find if there is any substance in this contention.

“He refused to be quoted”

Filed under: Uncategorized — Administrator @ 3:21 pm

The Times of India has an interesting style of handling anonymous sources.

Asked when facility would be open to people, the DDA site executive engineer, (SK Bhatia) refusing to be quoted, said, “A smooth three-lane four-way road for traffic from the Ring Road will be available to take turns to Link Road towards Vikram Hotel or to Lala Lajpat Rai Marg (LLRM) for Greater Kailash Part-I and Nehru Place or for straight drive down the JBTM alongside the new flyover.”

I see… he refused to be quoted, eh?

Alcohol= Sex

Filed under: Uncategorized — atri @ 9:56 pm

Expelling students for their moral failings seems to be the new trend after the arrest craze.

Right on the heels of the raging MMS sex-clip scandal involving a top Delhi school boy and a girl, another incident of juvenile misdeed has been reported in a city school.

TOI report.

hmm.. I wonder what next: if my high school principal had his way I guess guys would be arrested for even looking at girls.

I was wondering how long it would take before people start talking about the whole sex scandal and then mention how

India, where the Kama Sutra textbook of erotic love was penned at least 1,500 years ago, is deeply conservative today when it comes to the flesh.

Of course this is all umru press, so maybe it’ll be some time before our desi reporters join in the fray.

Arrest frenzy reaches fever pitch

Filed under: Uncategorized — Administrator @ 5:03 pm

Not only are all Indians going to be arrested, it is going to happen faster than we thought.

“Raids” have become really popular in U.P.: the policemen go out into the bazars and arrest all the young people they can find. They are then charged with having sex in public. The vernacular press whips itself into a frenzy and as you can imagine, the public swallows every last bit of it (and is left gasping for more).

Here is the most recent instance. The keepers of virtue would have you believe that these sixty schoolchildren were having sex in public places:

“We don’t need no education”

Filed under: Uncategorized — Administrator @ 1:45 pm

Sometimes you just don’t know where to begin. You just know what section to file this in.

There are hundred of TV channels of kinky music videos in India, and that sort of thing is not going to be without consequence. Okay, so two students — grades 6 and 8 — of a Ghaziabad school were raping a boy from grade 2 (in a classroom, during school hours) — or, as the venerable Times of India describes the activity

forcefully carrying out oral sex with a Class II student.

Ebay’s India CEO in Jail

Filed under: Uncategorized — Administrator @ 1:30 pm

To cut a long story short, two schoolchildren at the Delhi Public School made a videoclip of classroom sex and sent it to others. It reached everyone and their cousin, and someone sold a copy on Ebay’s Indian website.

In response, the long arm of the law caught up with Ebay’s India CEO and locked him up. Last we heard, he has been denied bail.

Since India is all about locking people up and refusing bail, there the matter would normally rest; but this victim is a US citizen, and the State Department is said to be interested; so the story has the potential to get more interesting.

Arrested for not standing during anthem in theater — 32 years ago!

Filed under: Uncategorized — Administrator @ 10:53 am

The banana republic is in full bloom. I think the day is not far when all Indians will arrest each other, refuse bail, and live in custody ever after.

In Maharashtra, that loony bin of nationalism, the local government made the national anthem mandatory before all movies, and everyone was required to stand in attention. Some guy didn’t, and on top of that he is Muslim, and so he has been arrested now, 32 years later

A journalist’s dream story — Man Bites Dog!

Filed under: Uncategorized — Administrator @ 12:21 pm

Yup, Man Bites Dog, and additionally, he asks Dog to bite Cop. Evidently, the good man used biting as a training technique.

Now this dog is named Lady (what’s in a name?), so we have the choice of the alternative headline “Man Bites Lady”. And with a name like Lady, it is certainly no wonder that Dog is Man’s Best Friend.
